Allergic Asthma – Pollen, Pets And Causes Of Asthma

What we know as Asthma is a disease of the respiratory system. The effects of asthma are that it causes the breathing pipes in our body, the airways, to constrict and they can become filled with mucous. This in turn, makes it very difficult for the person experiencing an asthma attack to breathe, which is clearly a potentially dangerous situation.

For those people who suffer from asthma attacks this can be a very frightening experience and for anyone close to the sufferer it can be a traumatic experience, watching someone suffer and feeling helpless to assist. When you see someone appear to stop breathing you feel you must do something but there’s little anyone can do unless they are qualified medical people with the appropriate treatments and equipment required.

When you discover you have a tendency to asthma you will find there are medications that are available to help prevent an asthma attack. The most common way of administering preventative medicines is usually in the form of an inhaler. Many people find these are effective in preventing an oncoming asthma attack but understanding some of the causes of asthma can prove to be a first step in avoiding a serious asthma attack.

You may hear people say they are allergic to cats, dogs and other animals and some people are particularly affected by dust and chemicals in the air. This type of asthma is usually referred to as allergic asthma. The effects of allergic asthma are that certain specific things a person is allergic to can bring on an asthma attack when they come into contact with that thing. An example of this would be for a person who is allergic to pollen suffering an asthma attack when they are in an area of high pollen such as around orchards, trees or flowers in the springtime when the flowers are all in bloom.

For people who react to pet dander, their allergic reaction may occur when they are close to a dog and this may bring on an attack. Allergic asthma can have serious implications if the correct procedures and actions are not taken in response to an asthmatic attack.

Allergy Testing

The first step in knowing if you are susceptible to allergic asthma is for you to go through an allergy testing process.

The way a doctor will determine if a patient suffers from allergic asthma will usually be by taking you through an allergy testing procedure. An allergy test may involve small injections of various suspect material down either side of your spine. If the injection sites show signs of becoming red or inflamed it is a sign that you are allergic to that particular material. With a specific allergy identified, your doctor will be able to determine any treatments or behaviour changes that might be appropriate to deal with the problem.

Living with Allergic Asthma: People who suffer from allergic asthma can, and do, live a normal life, just like everyone else. They may have to make changes in their daily life to avoid or reduce contact with the problem materials but they can enjoy a full life nonetheless. If they are allergic to cats or dogs, they may choose to get rid of any pets they currently have or they must make sure that pets do not enter the area where they sleep. They may choose to avoid visiting friends or family who have lots of pets but their friends and family should be ok to continue to visit them.

Making some simple, small changes in lifestyle may just save your life. Discovering you suffer from allergic asthma is not the end of the world. A diagnosis of this condition is not a death sentence. Knowing you have allergic asthma means you have to take it seriously and be a little more careful about what do, and what you breathe into your lungs. We should all look after our health but allergic asthma sufferers need to be extra vigilant about anything that might be harmful and bring on an attack.

The growing occurance of asthma is a worrying trend in the health of modern society. Asthma is a disease of the respiratory system that causes the airways to constrict and close up. The effect is that the person suffering from asthma experiences difficulty getting breath. Asthma can be a very serious condition that should be carefully monitored and certain precautions taken. In most cases where a person has asthma, they are diagnosed as children and by learning and following precautions early in life, they become less cumbersome and, thus, are easily followed throughout their adult lives. However, when adult asthma occurs, it can take a lot of getting used to and learning the best ways to deal with it.

Some people who suffer from adult asthma but didn’t have asthma as a child find it a very difficult experience to cope with. It can be caused from a variety of reasons, such as certain allergies and if somebody is diagnosed with adult asthma, they must take certain precautions they never had to deal with while growing up. The old saying you can’t teach old dogs new tricks must not apply and they must follow these precautions or else your adult asthma can seriously harm you or even, possibly, take your life. The precautions depend on what kind of adult asthma you suffer from.

Consult Your Doctor
To determine what kind of adult asthma you suffer from, you’ll want to make an appointment with your doctor. Your doctor will be able to tell you, after performing a series of tests, what kind of asthma you have as well as what activities or things to avoid. One example of this might be if your adult asthma is caused by an allergy to pollen, you’ll want to stay away from areas with a high concentration of pollen. Your doctor will also prescribe you medicine, usually in the form of an inhaler.

It is important to understand that adult asthma doesn’t mean your life is over. Adult asthma can be serious and it can, in fact, be life threatening if certain precautions aren’t taken and it may take some getting used to but by making a small, conscious effort, you can do what you need to do in order to prevent asthma from controlling your life.

Even if you weren’t asthmatic as a child, if you have adult asthma, you can live a long, normal life, you’ll just have to make small changes to your everyday life. Stay away from those activities or things that cause your asthma and listen to your doctor. If your doctor prescribes medicine, take your medicine. If your doctor gives you an inhaler, make sure you have your inhaler with you at all times. You’ll get used to it in no time at all and your adult asthma will be something you can put in the back of your mind. Control your asthma; don’t let asthma control you.

What is Asthma and What Is Asthma Relief?

Whilst it may be quite common Asthma is a serious disease which is both chronic and non-curable but it is possible to be relieved of the symptoms with the proper forms of medication and other appropriate asthma treatments. Anyone can be affected by asthma be they children or adults, but it is most commonly seen in young children and senior citizens. The disease of asthma causes an asthma attack which may take days or weeks to appear but can occur at anytime.

What are the Forms of Asthma Relief That are Available?

Relief for the symptoms of asthma come in several different types of treatment and you should be guided by your doctor on which type of asthma relief that you as an asthmatic should take. Your physician will be familiar with the circumstances of your condition and will decide form of treatment is most appropriate for you. This will be decided on the basis of the severity of your asthmatic condition and the practicalities of your daily life.

Asthma Relief From Asthma Symptoms

The term Asthma relief basically refers to any type of drug that provides relief from the asthma symptoms. These medicinal forms of asthma relief are used in most cases during the outbreak of an attack, when the airways become constricted and the medication is used in order to help to relax the muscles, which in turn helps to open up the airways again.

Though these medicinal asthma relievers are not necessarily able to prevent an asthma attack, they can be helpful in relieving some of the triggers which bring about an asthma attack as well as being helpful during the attack. The most common forms of asthma relievers are beta-agonists and these are used to stimulate the beta-receptors and to relax smooth muscle and open up the bronchioles.

There are two basic types of beta-agonists, which are: short-acting and long-acting. The short-acting forms are used to help overcome attacks, and the long-acting forms work by keeping the airways open for several hours. Most typically these are taken regularly even if asthma symptoms do not appear to be present in the patient. Some of the most popular medications of this type are - Salbutamol, Bitoterol, Ephedrine, Epinephrine, Fenoterol, Formoterol, Isoetharine, Isoproterenol, Orciprenaline, Pirbuterol, Procaterol, Salmeterol, and Terbutaline.

It is important that the specific type of asthma reliever is chosen by your doctor as they are best placed to know what is best for you taking into account any problems you have with allergies and other factors that guide the final decision of what type of medication you should take. Another consideration is the frequency of medication as some require a daily dose to provide asthma relief while others are taken more infrequently.

Infant Asthma – A Problematic Condition

Any parent will find infant asthma to be any parent’s nightmare. When pain is felt by the child it is also felt by the parent. Nobody wants to see their children suffer and it is a horrible feeling to see the wheezing and coughing of infant asthma that can be so detrimental to the health and the development of the child’s breathing and respiratory issues. There is always hope of reducing the effects of infant asthma and it can be combated with some degree of success that can allow a child to lead an ordinary life.

The lungs of an infant do not usually need to be as efficient as the lungs of an older child. Infant asthma does, in fact, impede the development overall of the child’s lungs which can in turn cause the symptoms to be significantly more severe due to the infancy. The problem arises, therefore, that any serious episode of asthma in an infant can potentially result in very difficult situations which may in some circumstances include complete and total lung failure and other damaging effects that could alter the way the respiratory system works for the remainder of the child’s life.

Recognizing The Signs
It is important to learn the signs for recognizing what is happening during an infant asthma attack. The next move you make with this recognition can mean the difference between survival and problematic symptoms or successful treatment of an episode. It is vitally important to keep up with visits to your doctor so that your child may be closely monitored so as to keep a careful and vigilant eye over any appearance the symptoms. A doctor can monitor key factors in your child’s health properly so as to help with any proper medication or other advice and assistance.

There are certain emergency signs for infant asthma that should be monitored. An emergency room visit should be the first thing to do in the event of any of the following symptoms being observed: significant breathing rate increase, halting in suckling or feeding for no apparent other reason, skin between child’s ribs becomes pulled tight, chest enlargement, general colouring changes, cry changes to become more frequent but softer and shorter, nasal flaring, or grunting. If any of these symptoms are observed, or other worrying signs, contact a medical professional immediately and take the child to the hospital.

What Natural Asthma Remedies Are Available?
Websters describes natural as “being such by nature” and that would seem to be a good place to start, natural things. With the benefit of internet search engines and instant information retrieval we are able to look up just about anything and we find that among thousands of ancient remedies there are some also suitable as natural asthma remedies.

There are lots of other considerations to keep in mind so if we explore a few of these alternative, complementary and natural asthma remedies we find the following:

Ayurveda
Coming out of India with centuries of exploration is Ayurveda and Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic medicine seeks to identify and treat the root cause of disease, chronic and acute illness. Problematic in its application as a natural asthma remedy is that our present day environment is filled with pollutants and it is not possible to remove all or even most of the problem

Nevertheless, Ayurveda offers herbal treatments to be used with corresponding exercises in the treatment of asthma. Results vary but general health improvements have their own effect on alleviating suffering.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture could be a natural asthma remedy. Again there are more than a thousand years of experience with acupuncture – mostly in Asian culture, and more recently in the West. Modern acupuncture has treatments for all sorts of modern-day problems such as aid to those attempting to quit smoking. Acupuncture as a natural asthma remedy has also come forward, making a strong presence in the last two decades.

Acupuncture has only recently been recognized by the allopathic medical communities as a useful co-treatment. We expect to hear lots more about this in the coming years.

Homeopathy
Homeopathy as a natural asthma remedy has come to light along with other popular remedies – Bach Flower Remedies, Essential Oil Treatments and Herbal Essence Therapies. The homeopathic practitioner (homeopath) identifies specific symptoms and treats them with very potent minute doses – the idea being to reduce stress caused by the condition with severe side effects, allowing the body time to rejuvenate itself and act in a more holistic way.

Healthy Lifestyle
Finally, a discussion on natural asthma remedy would not be complete without including healthy living as an important component. Although still considered subjective, elements of a healthy lifestyle should be looked at – diet, stress, environment, exercise and attention to living happily.

Ayurveda, Acupuncture and Homeopathy are all useful tools, especially within a larger program of Healthy Living – not a cure-all but definitely a natural asthma remedy.

Natural Asthma Treatment Options

What we call asthma is a respiratory disease that has the effect of causing airways to be constricted which can cut off our ability to breathe properly. For many people who suffer with asthma it is important to avoid certain activities and places because of the trigger effect that can bring on an attack of asthma. Medicines are available for people to take. The most common way of treatment with these medicines is in the form of an inhaler that an asthma sufferer can use when they feel the onset of an asthma attack. These asthma medicines can be expensive if you don’t have the appropriate health insurance and for many sufferers of asthma there may be natural asthma treatments which can help reduce the effects.

Reducing Asthma Effects By Avoiding Asthma Triggers
The best natural asthma treatment options may be to stay away from the triggers that bring on attacks. These triggers, or causes of asthma, include smoking, certain plants and fungi, extremes in hot or cold air as well as many others. It all depends on the severity of the person’s asthma but staying away from the causes of asthma is the best natural asthma treatment.

If smoking tends to trigger an asthma attack asthma treatment options would include quitting smoking, but you’ll also want to refrain from breathing in second hand smoke. If a person you live with smokes, ask them to do it outside or in a separate room with plenty of ventilation.

If extremes in temperature, such as cold air, bring about an attack, you’ll want to refrain from cold air activities, such as skiing or sledding. The natural asthma treatment of staying away from activities and locations that bring upon attacks may take some getting used to but it’s worth it when you consider your health, and possibly your life, is at risk. You likely know what thing bring an attack on and refraining from those things can save your life.

Natural Asthma Treatment Options To Help Lead A Long, Normal Life

People who suffer from asthma can lead long, normal lives. They should follow the natural asthma treatment, however, of refraining from the things that cause their asthma attacks. If the asthma is too severe, these natural asthma treatments may not work and medicine may be the only resort. However, if the asthma is only in its mildest form and it seems to only come about when you’re around certain elements, use the natural asthma treatment options of staying away from the causes of the asthma. Your lungs will thank you for it and you’ll feel much better by reducing the effects of asthma and you may actually find it easier to breathe normally, just like everyone else.
